On Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 2:00 PM-7:00 PM Lamacchia Realty Inc. will be holding a blood drive at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Waltham, MA (550 Winter Street, Waltham MA 02451, Drake B Ballroom).
Only 37% of the population is eligible to give blood and of that 37% only 10% donate! About 1 in 7 people who enter a hospital need blood, which equates to being needed about every two seconds. The demand for new and regular blood supply is constant as there is an expiration on how long blood can be stored. Red blood cells must be used within 42 days. Platelets must be used within just 5 days. Plasma and cryo are frozen and stored in freezers for up to one year.
Donating blood will continue to help save lives. Some common conditions that require blood transfusions are women with pregnancy complications, children with severe anemia, cancer patients, and of course anyone who suffered sever blood loss due to trauma. Thalassemia and sickle cell require regular blood transfusions also.
